There are benefits to having a winter birthday...namely twinkling lights, paper snowflakes, and hot cocoa. This year for Nina's birthday we decided to keep things simple and invite friends over for a night of cookies, hot chocolate, and a couple easy games. The best part was that I gave myself a break and bought most of the cookies! I did make a batch of oatmeal chocolate chip cookies though, Nina's favorite.
We decorated with paper snowflakes {Nina made them herself}, candles, and cotton ball "snow" strung from the ceiling. I string fairy lights up after Christmas every year {just to keep our spirits up until spring}, and they made the party feel extra cozy. Added in some cute mismatched dishes and we were all set!
I don't like those store bought frosted cookies myself...but they sure looked cute on the table, and of course the girls liked them!
All kinds of toppings at the hot cocoa bar...vanilla and peppermint marshmallows, cinnamon candies, peppermints, chocolate shavings and sprinkles, and whipped cream. I kept the hot chocolate warm in my big slow cooker, and served it up in those disposable hot drink cups with cardboard sleeves...the girls thought that was such a novelty, like they were in a café or something!
The more cookies the better!
Treat sacks full of marshmallows to snack on later, because why not?
Dim the lights and add the giggles! Happy birthday, Nina!
